Fraud and Special Investigation Unit
Our attorneys work in close cooperation with our clients’ special investigation units to uncover insurance fraud and either prosecute civil suits against the perpetrators of such fraud or defend against fraudulent claims. We have handled thousands of Examinations Under Oath (EUOs) in fire, homeowners, auto, workers’ compensation and health and life insurance claims for which we take a very aggressive stance against all fraudulent claimants. We have successfully defended against fraudulent theft and arson lawsuits as well as wrongful claims for bad faith claims handling.
Due to the depth of our experience, we have established a turnaround time from assignment to recommendation that is less than 65 days with EUOs regularly scheduled within two weeks of receipt of file materials. We believe that pro-active good faith file-handling prevents bad faith claims.
One of our managing partners, Gene Pinkus, is a regular speaker on the topics of bad faith and first-party fraud claims at national conferences including the National Society of Professional Insurance Investigators’ Annual Advanced Insurance Fraud Seminar. We also conduct complimentary first party SIU/fraud training for numerous clients.
We have experienced fraud and SIU counsel in each of our offices and regularly handle matters nationally. We work closely with local and national law enforcement and with specialized experts in theft, fire and medical fraud investigation. Our philosophy is to proactively seek to establish coverage, thus erring on the side of the policyholder. In this way, we protect our clients from bad faith claims while assessing a fair and impartial investigation.
